These days psychologists and governments of a number of countries are utterly worried about the psyche of younger generation. Medical researches witness that every day more teens get into despondency and are disposed to commit suicides. The reasons for this might be a few but the weightiest one is the sense of solitude and misunderstanding. There are, although, varied subcultures like emo, punk and goth which have found supporters all over the world.

Youth formations frequently conflict with the antagonists in the aspect of adults and social workers who suppose them to have a pernicious influence on the psyche of teens. On the contrary is the opinion of medics who affirm that the very subcultures assist teenagers to outlive life extreme situations and hardships of transitional age. Let's take emo subculture as a sample. Despite the existing public belief that emo young people are hostile, these boys and girls display as much reverence to everybody regardless of their ethnic belonging or religion. Only to ponder about valor of emo people who bid the defiance to the society by emo clothes and appearance. Emo girls and boys clothing differs from the average way of dressing: both sexes wear sportive shoes, dark tight-fitting trousers with colored belts, colorful pins and straps, a dark jacket and a bag over the shoulder. An emo clothes isn't the way to vary from the rest of people but simply the way to live. Outward appearance of emo boys and girls may as well arouse indignation or repugnance of typical citizens. Loud make up, rings in diverse parts of body, hair cut to the back of the head dyed black and having a long curl that covers half of the face and colored pink are the specific way to look for both emo boys and emo girl. Eyes are the reflector of the heart and feelings of emo young people that's why they accentuate them with dark eyeliner and black eye shadows. Teenage psychologists state that such a peculiar style of looking and dressing assist young people express themselves freely.

In addition, it's not only clothes and appearance that discern emo boys and girls from the other people but especially their psychological state. Emo girls can be rather sensitive and modest. They are wholehearted and rather emotional. Emo boys might be characterized as very susceptible and sympathetic. These feelings, although, are rather different things from what average people feel. The degree of expression of these feelings is several times bigger with emo young people, for instance, they might be rather disappointed when they do not find commendation or reciprocal feeling of people who are around. Psychologists state that average teenagers (who do not belong to any group or subculture) in similar situations get into their shells that may lead to frequent self-murder. Emo girls and boys do not hide their feelings inside; they associate and share their thoughts with one another. Well, is it terrible if a teenager searched out like-minded people with whom he may spend his leisure time and share his feelings? To make a conclusion, medics insist that parents and teachers should not thwart or prohibit teens to be a part of any youth group or subculture as it gives them freedom for self-actualization.
